Most tourist attractions in and around Cairns give visitors the option of pickup and return to your accommodation. Unfortunately, this is NOT the case for wheelchair users and people with impaired mobility who cannot climb up two or three steps into a bus. It will require people who feel they are discriminated against to make complaints, or nothing will change. Wheelie Easy would encourage you to do so through this link:
http://www.hreoc.gov.au/complaints_information/lodging.htmlThis leaves those with mobility impairments the following options:
• For attractions within the city of Cairns - catch a wheelchair accessible taxi (there are over 20 of these). If you have Interstate Taxi Vouchers, the fare should cost you very little. For information about your rights and responsibilities regarding wheelchair accessible taxis, download brochure here.
• Attractions further out – charter Wheelie Easy van, or hire your own van (click here for more information)Wheelie Easy runs Day Tours on request. The cost is not per person but is for vehicle and driver with a thorough knowledge of wheelchair access in the region. Cost of entry fees and meals not included. If there is anything specific you wish to see or do, please contact us for a quote.
